Many
of you know, Wallaby, or
Wally for
short, is Dr.
Frier's yellow Labrador. Pictures of her
diving in water hang on the wall of the clinic .
Recently,
she had a splenic torsion, or a twisting of the spleen. This required emergency
surgery to save her life. Her damaged spleen was removed and she recovered after
extensive care and blood transfusions.

Unfortunately, at the same time, a malignant
tumor was noticed on her rear leg. It was removed and sent to pathology for analysis.
The diagnosis was fibrosarcoma, or cancer of her Achilles tendon. Her only hope
of survival was amputation of the leg.

Only
one week after her massive splenic surgery, Wally had her leg
amputated. Happily, she is recovering well and has already jumped into the pool
for a swim.
