Animal Spotlight - TICO TICO

This is Tico Tico, a baby sloth that fell out of a tree in Costa Rica. While on vacation in Costa Rica, Dr. and Mrs. Frier found Tico Tico after he fell out of a 60-foot tree onto the ground. How he survived the fall is any one's guess.

Sloths live in the tops of trees in the rain forest. They only come down to the ground about every two weeks to have a bowel movement. Then, they return to the tree tops. They are vulnerable to predators, so they spend very little time on the ground. If they drop their babies, they do not climb down to help them. Consequently, they die or are eaten by other animals.

Tico Tico was lucky because Dr. and Mrs. Frier drove him 45 miles over very rough roads and paths to an animal rescue center. The latest word is that Tico Tico is growing daily and will soon be returned to the wild.
