Smokey
was a 10 year-old domestic short hair, brown tabby cat, and
was officially our "clinic cat." He came to us as a patient
when he was a few months old and weighing only 1 1/2 lbs.
He was very ill and needed major colon surgery and intense
care after surgery. His owners were not in a position to provide
the care he needed and they decided to turn him over to the
clinic for treatment. He has been a part of our clinic ever
since. He was always making us laugh with his outgoing, feisty
personality, never letting any dog get in his way. We enjoyed
his company at the clinic and took him home with us on the
weekends, where he loved to play, watch birds, sun himself,
and sleep on the nearest bed or sofa.

Smokey passed away in June
after a long illness. After his colon surgery, Smokey continued
to have gastro-intestinal problems and had to be put on a
special prescription food diet. He also had persistent sores
in his mouth, on his tongue, and in his pharynx. These worsened
as he grew older and they had to be surgically removed frequently.
He was having difficulty eating and had to have subcutaneous
fluids on a daily basis. We decided on June 24, 2005 that
it would be best for Smokey to be euthanized. He was such
a big part of the clinic and we will miss him greatly. He
was very special to all of us. We will never forget him.
