Oliver is our 7 year old M/N chocolate point Siamese-American Snowshoe “clinic cat”. He was a rescue cat from the Agoura Animal Shelter. We do not have a lot of information about Oliver before he came to us - just that he had special medical needs that made him unadoptable.
He came to Camino Animal Clinic on 1/9/06 from the rescue group Malibu Pet Companions. He was not able to empty his bladder and he needed to be catheterized several times a day. He also had limited control of his bowel movements due to a car accident in which he fractured his sacrum and paralyzed his tail. Dr. Frier performed a urethrostomy in January of 2006 to create urethral opening below rectum to facilitate urination. This operation allowed us to catheterize Oliver without discomfort, but did not restore his ability to urinate. His bladder was so tense, that it was impossible to manually express it. Our veterinarians tried a number of medications to relax Oliver’s bladder with no effect. To this day, he needs to have a urinary catheter placed to remove the urine from his bladder twice a day. He also had a tail amputation in June of 2006 to remove the portion of his tail that was paralyzed and putting unnecessary weight on his fractured sacrum. Now he has a much more comfortable “bobbed” tail.
Oliver is a very special cat that greets our clients (when he is not sleeping) and is always willing to accept attention. He is easy-going and loves other cats. He is not as fond of dogs, especially when they charge at him. He has been known to take a swipe at a few dog’s noses in defense. He loves to be petted and played with. He likes to curl up in the “in-box” or lay in his kitty tent up-front. He lies in the sun by the door to get his fill of Vitamin D. And he loves sweets, especially cake frosting. We hope Oliver will be with us at Camino Animal Clinic for a long time.
